The University of Montana Western is the only public college in the country to offer a block scheduling program. We call this innovative program Experience One (X1). Here’s how it works. Students take one class at a time, three hours each day for 18 days before moving on to the next class. In between, they enjoy a four day break to relax and recharge. Then the students move on to the next class. Taking four classes or “blocks” during the semester, students earn the same amount of credit they’d earn under traditional multi-class systems.
Montana Western students learn by performing real-world work in a mentorship environment. Practical, hands-on learning ensures students truly understand what they learn and are
fully prepared for graduate school and professional work beyond our campus.
Concentrate on one class at a time and get more out of your education. By giving one class your total focus, you can fully immerse yourself in a subject and retain more of what you learn.

Graduates emerge from this campus with an impressive portfolio of actual experience, which gives them an edge in entering graduate school and highly competitive job markets. With
a pulse on their respective fields, UMW professors are committed to student success.
There is no falling through the cracks at Montana Western. You will take an active role in your education and by working closely with professors and fellow students, you will
be challenged and motivated to excel.
X1 allows students to break free from the memorize-and-regurgitate education model. Close collaboration with peers, professors, professionals and the community make
a complete learning experience.
Forget juggling six different schedules at a time. Experience One simplifies scheduling giving you ample time for in-depth study, work and leisure. Less stress means more energy spent on
your education and college experience.
Montana Western faculty are committed to providing students with graduate-level research opportunities at the undergraduate level. Experience One allows students to fully
delve into research projects without compromising other academic work.
With no other classes to get in the way, X1 leaves the door to international travel wide open for Montana Western students. Our active international programs have sent students
to Greece, Italy, Ireland, Ecuador, the Galapagos Islands, Germany and the Czech Republic.
Your professors and fellow students will be your close mentors, peers and collaborators. Professors will know your name and because they only teach one class
at a time, will have your full attention. As a student at Montana Western, you will be part of a more effective and fulfilling learning environment.
